Discovery learning is a process for guiding people in an exploration of a topic or issue individually, or collectively, to pick it apart and make sense of it, thereby personally developing a deeper understanding. Contemporary research has proven it to be a highly effective adult learning mechanism, which is hardly surprising given its roots in ancient history. As Confucius once said,
